Understanding What’s Beneath the Behaviors

Whether you adopted a rescue or raised them and your companion is experiencing behavioral troubles, their nervous system is stuck in a pattern they can't break free from alone. Maybe you've tried, trainers, behaviorists, medications, you're running out of options. As their guardian, you're carrying an impossible weight: the responsibility to keep everyone safe while honoring the love you have for this animal.

Animal Reiki* addresses what traditional approaches may miss: the stored trauma, fear, and pain living beneath the behavior. When an animal's nervous system is locked in survival mode, no amount of training alone can create lasting change. When we release what's trapped in their energy field it allows their body to remember what safety feels like.

Every animal is different and Reiki is a compassionate attempt to address the root cause. Regardless of the outcome, you'll know you explored every avenue with love, with intention, and with the support you both deserve.

Addressing Trauma Stored in the Body

Traditional training works with the conscious mind, teaching new behaviors. But it can't release what's locked in the nervous system and energy field. Reiki works at this deeper level, helping dislodge stored trauma so it can move through their system. This helps calm the overactive stress response, and allow the body to shift out of survival mode. When the energetic root is addressed, training can be more effective.

When You've Tried Everything Else

You're not failing. Your companion isn't broken beyond repair. Sometimes the missing piece is addressing the energetic and nervous system components. Reiki complements rather than replaces the work you've already done. It may help medications work more effectively by calming the baseline anxiety. It can help training stick by creating space for learning. And even if it doesn't "fix" the behavior entirely, it often brings enough improvement to make life more manageable or enough clarity to make difficult decisions with confidence instead of anguish.

Navigating Behavioral Euthanasia with Compassion

If you're considering behavioral euthanasia, you're facing one of the most heartbreaking decisions someone can make, ending the life of an animal you love because the quality of life and safety of everyone involved has become unsustainable.

This isn't a decision anyone should make alone or in desperation. Reiki can support you and your companion during this process. Even if the behavior doesn't change, the process of trying helps you gain insight and awareness about what's truly happening with your companion. You may come to understand their fear more deeply, recognize their suffering more clearly, or simply feel the peace of knowing you explored every option available.

Animal Reiki sessions are typically 30-45 minutes. They are gentle, quiet, and tailored to your animal's comfort level. Your companion may come and go, move closer, become visibly calmer, sigh deeply, or fall asleep as the healing energy works through their system; all responses are welcome.

Behavioral Support:

During the session we'll also discuss what you've already tried and what your goals are, whether that's behavioral improvement, quality of life enhancement, or clarity for decision-making. Reiki works best alongside, not instead of, veterinary care, behavioral consultation, and appropriate training. I'm happy to coordinate with your existing team.

Most behavioral cases benefit from weekly sessions initially, allowing us to work consistently with the nervous system and time to integrate the subtle changes without losing momentum. Some animals show improvement within 3-4 sessions; others need longer-term support.

Behavioral Euthanasia Support:

If the decision becomes behavioral euthanasia, I'm here to support both you and your companion through that process, providing comfort during their final transition and helping you process the grief and complex emotions that follow.

My support doesn't have to end when your companion passes. I can support you, your family, and animal siblings with Reiki during your grief journey. Continuing the connection after transition can be just as important as the transition itself.

What to Expect in a Session
Did You Know?

In traumatized or chronically stressed animals, the amygdala (fear center) becomes overactive while the hippocampus (memory and context center) becomes less functional. This means they perceive threats everywhere, even in safe situations, and can't accurately distinguish between past danger and present safety. Traditional training tries to teach the prefrontal cortex (rational brain), but when the limbic system is dysregulated, rational learning can't override emotional reactivity. Energy healing helps calm limbic system hyperactivity, allowing the brain to begin accurately assessing situations again rather than responding from constant threat perception.
