About Animal Reiki

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means Universal or Spiritual (Rei) energy (ki). It's a gentle energy healing technique used for relaxation, stress reduction, and creating a sense of peace and balance.

Physics says that everything in existence, including your animal companion, is made of energy. Life force energy flows through and around all living beings, supporting physical health, emotional well-being, and vitality. But stress, trauma, illness, and everyday life can create blockages or imbalances in this energy flow, affecting how your companion feels and functions.

Reiki helps release these energetic blockages and restore natural flow. By working at this deeper energetic level, Reiki supports your companion's nervous system regulation, activates their body's natural healing processes, and creates the conditions where true well-being, physical, emotional, and spiritual, becomes possible. It's non-invasive, deeply calming, and honors your animal's innate capacity to heal when given the right support.

So how does Distance Reiki work?

Good question! A good analogy is that it works a little bit like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Just like there are invisible radio waves that allow our devices to connect, there is invisible energy all around us. In this analogy, I am the device using Reiki (Wi-Fi) to connect and channel this energy with my intention to help your animal heal and focus the energy to your companion. Energy knows no bounds so whether you're at home or far away, the benefits of reiki can be experienced anytime and anywhere, even for those that have already transitioned.

I see lots of dog and cat pictures on your site. Can reiki help my bird/turtle/fish/horse?

Reiki can help any species of animal, domestic or wild.  Ask me the story about my reiki session with a friend's turtle!

Can Reiki change my animal’s behavior?

No, animals have a mind and soul of their own. But Reiki can work clear blockages to help energy moving freely again, so your animal's body can do what it naturally knows how to do: heal, regulate, and find balance. During the session, I may also get insight into their internal experience so you have as much information as possible to help improve their well-being.

How can you help my animal?

Reiki can help with many physical and emotional issues your pet may be feeling and to restore physical and emotional well-being.

When in a more relaxed state, energy pathways in the animal’s body can open up and allow for healing to happen, including alleviating pain and discomfort and encouraging quicker healing from injuries or illnesses.

Additionally, Reiki can foster a deeper, more peaceful and harmonious bond between you and your animal(s).

Can you diagnose my animal?

Nope. I’m not a vet. Reiki works well alongside veterinarian support. Reiki helps activate your companions' natural healing processes that can restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki can do no harm, think of it as another tool in your healing toolbox.

My animal is currently being treated by my vet.  Can they still receive Reiki?

Animal Reiki works very well with and is complementary to (but not instead of) most veterinary treatments that your animal is currently receiving. Overall, it can be a gentle and supportive complement to traditional veterinary care. But if you are still hesitant, please feel free to check with your vet before scheduling a session.

Animal Reiki Sessions

What can I expect in a session?

Animal Reiki sessions are gentle, quiet, and tailored to your animal's comfort level. Your companion may come and go, move closer, become visibly calmer, sigh deeply, or fall asleep as the healing energy works through their system; all responses are welcome.

Sessions typically last 30-45 minutes and can be done at your home or distance healing via a video call.

Why would I choose Virtual/Zoom for sessions?

There is a lot to be said for an animal being in the comfort of their home with a loved one. They tend to be much more relaxed and open to receiving Reiki energy.  Bringing them to an unfamiliar location and meeting a new person can be upsetting to some animals.  And with distance Reiki, they don't have to. My goal is to reduce stress and anxiety which then increases the body’s natural ability to heal and better benefits your animal.

You can do Reiki from a picture?

Yes! Much like distance reiki works while on Zoom, I can connect to your animal family member's energy from a picture.  This is a great option if you are away from them and would like to offer them some comfort while separated or if you are unable to find an appropriate time to meet.  You will receive written feedback on these sessions.

How often should I schedule a session?

While you may see improvements after just one session, usually issues build up over time.  Additional sessions may be helpful in balancing chronic problems.

How do I get my animal to sit still for the session?

The great news is that they don’t have to!  Your companion should be free to get up and move around if they choose.  Or they can sit on your lap, their favorite bed, spot, or perch.

If they choose to get up and leave the room, that is often a signal that they are done or not interested.  Reiki should not be forced on anyone and that includes animals.
